About Your Septic System
Out of sight, out of mind. Pumping your septic tank is one of the easiest home maintenance tasks to forget about – the tanks are buried, the access port is sometimes hard to see, etc. However, this important maintenance task will help you avoid smelly and expensive septic tank or drain field repairs. If they are regularly pumped, septic tanks can last decades and provide reliable sewage treatment. The size of your family, tank size, whether or not you have a garbage disposal, and climate are just a few factors that will influence the service interval. Please note, most counties are on a mandatory 3 year maintenance plan.
When CK Septic Service arrives at your property, we preform a number of valuable jobs. Not only do we pump your system, we conduct a full inspection of tank condition, baffles, filters, alarms and drain fields. Each job we treat as if it was our own system doing the very best job we can! Regular septic maintenance can save you money in the long run.
Ways to Prevent Needless Expenditures
Clean Your Filter at Least Yearly
Lets talk dirty! Your system may or may no have a filter depending on the design of system installed. If your system does have a filter, it should be cleaned AT LEAST once a year and should be securely placed in its holder. Allowing your filter to plug can cause backups and clogs. This is a task a homeowner can do on their own. However, if this is a job you do not want to do, give us a call. During each pumping we service your filter by cleaning it and inspecting it. We also do yearly filter cleanings as well. To be added to our yearly filter cleaning list, contact our office at 608-341-6249.
Have Your Tank Pumped Regularly
Undigested mineral matter builds up on the bottom of your tank over the years. If the level gets too high it can flow out into the drain field. The tank must be pumped before this happens. Pumping every 1-3 years avoids any problems. In Southwestern Wisconsin septic tanks should be pumped every 3 years and in some cases every 1-2 years. Your septic system partially treats your septage and then pushes the clean water out to your drain field. Your drain field then disperses into the soil which further treatment takes place. About 40% of your tap water is recycled water. If your septic system is not able to properly treat your septic, the untreated septic flows out to your drain field. Two big things can happen here....one, your drain field plugs and you have to get a replacement. Or two, the not fully treated recycled water reaches your water table and you begin to drink.....well fecal matter. In our area 50 wells were tested and 50% came back positive for fecal matter. Don't let anyone tell you that your system can skip a maintenance pumping. They are important! You may have received a notice from your county that it is time to get your septic system cleaned. Our team will do a detailed full inspection and can put you on an ongoing schedule for septic tank maintenance. Compared to the high cost of drain field replacement, regular pumping is very inexpensive insurance. We would be happy to ad you to our customer list.
